K’o Chaqiya’ it is the phrase that local people use to let the customers Know that organic chocolate is available for sell. The time of drinking in San Pedro La Laguna in Sololá Guatemala Lake Atitlan represents a special occasion, since it is an expensive product daily drink.
The preparation: The Abuelos (grandparents) around lake Atitlan have their unique technique of making it. The grandparents of San Pedro La Laguna in theory they boil a litter of water and pull from a bag of six pieces of Chaqiya’ (Chocolate de cacao puro) with the shape of a tortilla and smashed it down with a piece of rock till it gets powder, and then they pour it into the boiling water; they steer it, adding some honey to make it a bit sweeter. The members of the event gather around the table and sit to get served while they talk about what has been the best part of the week or the hardest part of their project, or a silly play during a soccer game or another subject.
